Night vision works great! Don't give up if the computer won't connect. Try a different computer.
I'm a bit disappointed that you can't see the image very clearly just using it as a monocular. It's a little blurry and I can't find any settings to adjust the view screen resolution. However, when you record videos, the video playback is wonderful. I had a nightmare trying to get this thing to connect to a computer. After losing hair and sleeping on it, this device was only connected to my Lenovo Ideapad twice long enough for me to transfer and watch my videos. Most of the time it failed; When connected, it would keep connecting, disconnecting, reconnecting, and then disconnecting again, over and over again, and it just wouldn't let me view or transfer files. If this problem persisted, WHEN CONNECTED AS A MASS STORAGE DEVICE flashed a LOW BATTERY INDICATOR even though good batteries were installed and the device was showing a FULL BATTERY INDICATOR on the previous (video) screens. I COULD transfer some files to my Ideapad twice last night, but when I tried again tonight it failed miserably AT LEAST TEN TIMES, even after putting in another set of brand new batteries and even after restarting the monocular and Ideapad several times. So, just for fun, I decided to try connecting the monocular to my older AMD FX desktop computer that I built about a decade ago. It connected flawlessly on the very first try, and since then (so far) it has connected to my FX machine running Windows 10 every time. Apparently my Lenovo Ideapad is picky about what it wants to connect to. Anyway, everything seems to be working at this point. I plan to reinstall the USB drivers on my Ideapad and then try again to connect. I had started a return for this item, but I have since canceled the return. I still have time to change my mind, but I think this thing is a go! Bargain Price Recorded Video Quality - Recorded videos look great when played back. Zoom in - not so much but I only tried it on the HD setting which I thought was 1080 at first but now think it might be 720. Battery Life - I've been experimenting with pretty long IR night vision time with my monocular and just threw away one set of TRULY DEAD batteries. Whenever I had connection problems on my Ideapad, the monocular would flash a low battery indicator, prompting me to try several sets of new batteries. The batteries still held a good charge. Since the USB port on my Ideapad is having an issue, I suspect the low battery indicator during a malfunction has something to do with USB ports allowing battery charging on many connected devices. Some other people have claimed in their reviews that this device eats batteries like a monster when the infrared light is on, but that wasn't my experience. Cons Manual - The manual isn't accurate to every word, which made me scratch my head a bit. View Screen Image - Blurry images on screen during video recording is really frustrating. You pretty much have to use the recording feature to really see what you're seeing during night vision and then play it back or broadcast the video and display it on something larger. Screen too small - It's really hard to see anything on this tiny screen, even with strong reading glasses. You CAN find that the video playback quality is great, but the display screen is just too small.
