A good try but could use refining
Have you ever looked into getting a Peak Design Cuff but didn't want to get into their ecosystem because of the price? This is a very similar alternative and will work just as well as a self-cinching camera strap. Heck it also has the same strap width of 19mm, so for better or for worse the comfort when using is the same. But just as I am not a huge fan of the PD Cuff, there's a few things I am not a fan of although this product does have two small shortcoming when it comes to build/finish quality.First let me address my dislike with these auto-cinch design: the length. It's good that it will cinch down and not slip out of your hands if you drop your camera but the distance dropped can still significant enough to hit a surface. It'll be better than a ground fall but given that, depending on your wrist size your camera still drops about 30cm from a raised hand position, plus the width of your camera and a bit of your lens too. That's still pretty significant. And in order for the strap to fit most hands it can't be made that much shorter... except this one seems to be a smidge bigger/longer than the PD Cuff, so more travel distance but better fit for people with very large hands or over gloves.Quite comfortable to let dangle off your wrist though. Now the general design limitation aside, let's talk about the materials and how secure they are.1. The STRAPS are similar but I would say slightly thicker than PD's Cuff, though sharing the same width. The nylon webbing is most definitely strong enough and it is also nice and smooth to the touch. [Excellent.]2. The LEATHER strap overlay looks and feels nice. Due to it being sown to the nylon webbing in a curved way, it keeps the strap in an open position. [Excellent.]3. The BUCKLE is a three point release buckle and quite burly. It is a little on the large side but that helps with the durability and strength. The fact that it is 3 point instead of two makes it very secure. [Great!]4. The FIBER CORD is really tough, holds a bunch of weight and is also thick enough for safety even against a bit of abrasion. [Excellent.]5. The POLYMER ends to the soft goods (nylon straps and fiber cords) are thick and tough as well. A bit thicker than PD's Hypalon but the edge finishing isn't quite a rounded. Add to it being thicker and stiffer, the edges contacting your skin can feel scratchy. At least it is super tough. [Good.]6. The STITCHING isn't the cleanest job everywhere but for the vast majority it looks great. Not going to come undone nor does it look like it will be the weak link. [Great!]7. The ALUMINUM BUCKLE is where I find the whole otherwise pretty great experience falls apart. The buckle is well finished on the top and bottom but the sides could honestly use more work. The exterior sides still clearly shows a lot of manufacturing/forming artifact despite the smoothened finish, and the inner sides (where the strap goes) as well. Even though the general edges aren't sharp and the exterior sides doesn't cause any discomfort only visual flaws, the inner sides are a different story. They're hard to see but after doing a few drop test letting the strap cinch itself down, I can always see the nylon webbing/strap fraying on the edges... imagine using this long term. This unfortunately means that while it does function, it will critically affect the longevity of the strap and thus the safety of your equipment. [Bad.]Honestly, for the discounted price over the Peak Design Cuff (by about $10-$20 with coupon) I would have rated it a 4, as I would have rated the PD Cuff despite it not having as good refinement nor the magnets to wear it as a bracelet while the camera is off it. But because of the poor finishing on the aluminum hardware that will inevitably affect the performance of the strap, and the safety of the gear, I will drop it to a 3. I otherwise am pretty impressed with it, just made worse by the disappointment of that one single piece of hardware. As it stands if this type of wrist strap is still what you are looking for, I would still recommend saving for the PD Cuff instead. Think of the extra $10 as your lifetime warranty that K&F doesn't offer.
