52mm Black Mist 1/4 Filter + Metal Lens Cover Nano-Xcel Series - Mist Cinematic Effect Filter for Video, Vlog, Portrait Photography
SKU: KF01.1884
This K&F Concept filter screwed on smoothly to my lens, without any of the harsh turning sounds other filters made that I have tried.
This filter is rather unique in my collection, because it is the first filter I own that has a screw on filter cap. It is similar to a lens cap, but much thinner and made of metal.
I own a lot of UV filters, but this is a diffusion filter. It produces a noticeable glow around light sources. It is a 1/4 strength filter and did produce more of a glow than another brand's 1/8 filter that I tried. I guess there is some uniformity in how much glow they produce, across brands, relatively speaking.
The filter itself feels thick and substantial.
You can really see the diffusion coating on the glass.
Overall, I am happy with this filter and it did what it is supposed to do. It produces a glow that is a bit unnatural, but not too over-the-top.

These are considerably cheaper than the tiffen black pro mist filters, are much thinner, and seem to have pretty much exactly the same performance when shot side by side

Let's start at the beginning. What does a "crap filter" do? It ensures that lights get a "blurr effect". In German the lights look a bit hazy. This can create a really cool look in film productions, but is also really useful for photos for portraits etc. For example, a chain of lights in the background of the model or similar
Autofocus works perfectly with the Sony A7 Mark 2 and the Kito lens.
What I find absolutely awesome is the "packaging" or where the filter is stored. Nothing wobbles here! This is rock solid and can even be used for other filter sizes.
Oh: Despite the filter, the lens hood and the protective cap for the lens fit without any problems.
Processing as always top! no plastic ;-)

This filter is not one that I used to regularly carry in my bag, as I assumed it functioned primarily as a mix between an ND filter and a soft filter. But, given the chance to use it for a few days, I realized I was wrong! The 1/4 black diffusion filter (there's also a stronger 1/2 filter) is mostly used for its softening effect on faces, where it can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes. In that role, it works, although perhaps a bit too much for some photos. I shoot outside landscapes and architectural shots more than portraits, where the filter reduces glare and reflections. It's also good for throwing backgrounds out of focus more than the camera itself manages. The effect, at first glance, are subtle but they are visible in a side-by-side comparison. Mostly, there's a "glow" effect to shots that is quite appealing. The quality of the filter is high, and I use it now almost as a default on my primary 85mm and 105mm lenses. Nice filter.

SO NICE! It's most noticeable in brighter/sunnier conditions but this just adds a very nice soft look to photos that cuts the editing process down and makes a very peaceful looking photo! Definitely best to look at a shoot beforehand when deciding whether or not to use it just because it wouldn't be suitable for everyone's style but if you're looking for something to add a very nice and soft glow to the light in your photo then this is honestly perfect!

Favoring shooting to post-processing, I tried this filter with the only lighting of an electric garland and the rendering was good, the light from the garland is diffuse and softer.
Can't wait to use it for night video when the restrictions are lifted.

Amazing filter for night street photography in nicely lit situations. Street signs, lights, etc. Add a very nice soft glow to your images. During the day, it's add a soft cinematic touch.
Not on my lens 100% of the time but a very nice filter to have in your bag.

Order received on time.
Packaging more than adequate.
As for the equipment more particularly well… it does the job very well. It's really essential gear for those who want to soften their digital photo rendering. Can't wait to test it in portrait photography

While they are not B&W or even Tiffen, I do like K&F Concept filters. Their filters tend to be well made, have a minimum of distortion and colorization especially considering their reasonable price. The 52mm Nano-X Black Soft Filter is another example of a well made, inexpensive filter.
Keep in mind that this is a special effects filter. It won’t be much value in normal, everyday photography. It is a Diffusion Effect filter. These filters were very popular in Hollywood films especially in the 1940s and 1950s. The were used for reducing blemishes and wrinkles on actor’s faces (especially on women) and for creating glowing effects. However, if you need or want these kinds of effects in your images, the K&F Concept 52mm Nano-X Black Soft Filter will do the job at a reasonable cost.
