I am so glad I bought this filter, it's like putting sunglasses on your lens. Not only does it offer another level of protection but can improve your photography with the ability to adjust lighting at will.

When I bought it, I didn't even realize that it was a variable ND filter which is a nice surprise and feature. The only complaint I have is that because of the variable ring on the filter, it does not fit with my lens hood on. I have 18-105mm Nikon lens.Other than that very good.

The product is simple, just rotate to get the effect you want. It is also good value for the money.

Wide diameter and easy to adjust. Comes in a protective box for transporting it.
I fancied trying some long exposure shots with my smartphone. I already had bought fixed filters but there was no adjustment to them without shooting through several layers of glass. Thought I'd try this one as it was adjustable. It's like having two polarising filters mounted together and is infinitely variable from light to very dark just by twisting the frame.
It does take a bit of fiddling and post editing to get some natural colour back, but it did what I wanted it to and am waiting for some better weather to spend a bit more time tatting with it. Its is big enough to cover all the lenses on the back of the phone with room to spare for hand movement though you do need to hold it very close.
Obviously a tripod is needed and a steady hand is helpful.
It was suitable form my needs and I recommend it.
Useful for long exposure with a smartphone

I understand most cheap ND filters won't work at max density. ND 400 gives 8 2/3 stops. I was hoping it could give me acceptable image quality at 7 stops. But at 7 stop I can already see dark edge. From there and above is unusable. I would say the max usable density is around 6 stop. If I have to use 7, I will need to do some editing to fix dark edge. Since I already have a ND1000 filter, and there's no other filters cheaper than this, I guess I will live with it.

This ND Filter does exactly what you'd expect, and it feels like a premium filter with a sturdy feel. The photos come out great. The biggest problem, and it's a big enough problem that I no longer use it, is it does not hold a lens cap whatsoever. I've tried several lens caps and the same thing happens, the slightest of knocks of the camera will send the lens cap flying. As a photographer that takes their camera hiking I expect my gear to be able to withstand some knocks, unfortunately the slightest knock is an issue now and I got sick of constantly worrying about the lens cap coming off. I would rather have a functioning lens cap than an ND filter, so I don't use the ND filter anymore.
